Introducing Collapsi and a One Week Jam
I had a new idea for a tabletop game hit me like a lightning bolt on Friday. I started to brainstorm the idea a bit, and on Saturday I wrote out a few ideas and established a starting point for design and testing. Sunday, I sat down with my wife and started playtesting the concept. Thus began the week-long jam for my newest game: Collapsi.
First, what is the game concept? Collapsi is a two (or more?) player abstract strategy maze game in which the object is to be the last player able to move their pawn legally on the board. The board is made up of numbered tiles, and those numbers determine how many spaces a player must move their pawn on their turn. Players will take turns moving pawns until one player is unable to do so on their turn. That player is the loser.
The “jam” officially began on Sunday with my first playtesting session. We will be heading to my parent’s house on Saturday to celebrate a birthday, so I want to have this game ready to show by then. Each night, I will test a few ideas, take some notes, and then develop some new things to test based on the results.
